Purse and handbag sales are expected to grow by 4% in American markets during 2008

The Spanish Commerce and Economy Agency in Los Angeles announced that “purse and handbag sales are expected to grow by 4% in American markets over the twelve months of 2008. Some other leather items like belts and small leather goods, however, will not be as successful, and are expected to remain stable or grow slightly, by 1%.
American publication Accessories estimates that retail sales of accessories in American markets reached a total of over 31 billion US dollars (some 24.5 billion Euros) in 2007, a figure similar to that reached over the two previous years”.

In France, online sales are a successful channel for accessories

The boom of online sales specializing in accessories is clearly attractive to French consumers, ICEX reported. “Online boutiques are specializing in accessories designed in accordance with the latest trends, and season collections by internationally renowned footwear, leather goods and fancy jewelry brand names. For some months now, we notice that there have appeared more and more websites dedicated to selling accessories, and all of them share the common denominator of having been created less than three years ago, but their sales volumes grow all the time.
E-boutiques use marketing and advertising tools to make themselves known, including key words in search engines, banners, free ads, press contacts, e-mailing news on special offers, etc. Some of them even add value to products in order to seduce consumers”.

Alicante as a sector views Indian markets as high-value opportunities

The news on local newspaper Las Provincias reports about a work meeting “held on Thursday 5 in Alicante, where representatives from 65 footwear, footwear components and leather goods companies met with some twenty of the major Indian companies in the sector in order to open potential industrial cooperation in various fields. The meeting of the Spanish and Indian footwear sectors, planned by the Council of Indian Leather Goods Manufacturers and Exporters in Spain (CLE), defends diversification in the marketplace and international expansion for companies, mostly to emerging countries as an instrument for strengthening business.
